Miss-Lou becomes Great White Way for one night

Beginning at 7 p.m., Lori Bade and Jan Grimes will be performing Broadway Music at the Concordia Bank and Trust Co. The event is free of charge and open to the public, offering selections from Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Oklahoma and Fantasticks. &8220;We are really looking forward to them and they are excellent performers,&8221; Concordia Parish Library Director Amanda Taylor said. &8220;I think it will be a very good performance and something where people can come, listen and will probably want to tap their foot to.&8221; Bade, a mezzo soprano and Associate Professor of Voice and Vocal Arts Area Coordinator since 1999, has served as professor of voice at LSU since 1993. She has earned several singing honors and has been awarded prizes from the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, MacAllister Awards for Opera Singers and the National Federation of Music clubs. &8220;We are going to be covering mostly musical theatre selections, most of which the average person has already heard,&8221; Bade said.

Bade earned a Doctoral Degree in Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from The University of Texas at Austin. She received the Outstanding Young Graduate Award from Texas Lutheran University (1996) and the Tiger Excellence in Teaching Awards from LSU (1997 and 2005).

Grimes holds degrees from LSU and The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Constitution Hall and concert stages. Grimes has also performed at Universities and community centers across the United States and Canada.
