SUMMIT &8212; Losing is never fun, but losing after leading 4-0 in the first inning is extra tough.
That was the case for the Natchez 12-year-old All-Stars Friday night when they scored four runs in the first inning, only to never score again and fall to Summit 5-4 in eight innings.
The Natchez loss put them behind 1-0 in this best-of-three series.
Game two will be tonight at 7 at Carroll Jones Field in Natchez, since game one was held at Summit. The site of game three, if necessary, will be determined by coin flip.
James Michael Schmidt took the win on the mound for Summit; while Chris Perry took the loss for Natchez.
Jake Brumfield got the only Natchez extra-base hit with a double.
Summit scored two runs in the second and third innings to tie the game, and then scored on a passed ball in the eighth to win.
The loss put Natchez one game away from elimination.
