NATCHEZ — The Adams County Sheriff’s office has arrested two men suspected of a Friday armed robbery and shooting.
Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said deputies arrested Michael Lavelle Carter, 24, 56 1/2 Oak St., at 7:38 p.m. on charges of acting in concert with armed robbery and aggravated assault.
Approximately an hour later, the suspect who allegedly shot the victim, Reginald Julius Primm, 33, turned himself in at the sheriff’s office.
The incident was reported by Jearmie O’Neal, 32, who spoke to police from the hospital where he was being treated for two gunshot wounds to the inner left thigh.
O’Neal reported that he and his cousin were at O’Neal’s residence on Steam Plant Road when two men pulled up in a car, got out and began talking to O’Neal and his cousin. O’Neal reportedly told the men to leave his property.
Mayfield said sometime later, Primm and Carter allegedly returned and to rob O’Neal at gunpoint while O’Neal and his cousin were sitting in O’Neal’s car in front of his house.
One of the men reportedly told the victim, “‘Give me everything you got,’” Mayfield said.
O’Neal reportedly attempted to take the gun away from Primm while it was pointed at his head when the gun fired and two bullets struck O’Neal in his leg.
Mayfield said the victim knew a nickname of Carter, which helped lead investigators to the suspects.
Shortly after word was spread that deputies were looking for Primm, Primm turned himself in, Mayfield said.
Because O’Neal has been medicated and was still being treated in Jackson for his injuries, investigators are still unclear why the initial confrontation occurred, Mayfield said.
Neither suspect was given a bond by Monday night.
