NATCHEZ &8212; Natchez attorney Everett Sanders is expected to get the nod as new city attorney when the Board of Aldermen meets at 6 p.m. today at the Council Chamber building on South Pearl Street.
&8220;Everett Sanders has been working with Walter Brown for the past three weeks,&8221; said Mayor Phillip West, who was attending the Monday reception to honor retiring City Attorney Brown.
&8220;I polled the board to get their preferences a few weeks ago,&8221; West said. &8220;Barring some change of mind that I don&8217;t foresee, Everett Sanders is who it will be.&8221;
West said he had hoped the board would appoint two attorneys because of the workload city government demands.
&8220;Walter has been not only city attorney but kind of our chief operating officer, as well,&8221; West said.
Sanders is not on the city payroll, West said. If the board formally approves his appointment today, he will begin July 1.
