NATCHEZ — A man was shot twice and injured Friday night in an attempted robbery at his residence on Steamplant Road.
Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said Natchez Regional Medical Center called his office at approximately 9 p.m. reporting a gunshot wound victim.
Mayfield said when deputies arrived at the hospital, Jearmie O’Neal, 32, reported that he and his cousin were at O’Neal’s residence when two males pulled up in a car, got out and began talking to O’Neal and his cousin. O’Neal reportedly told the men to leave his property.
Mayfield said sometime later, the two men returned and allegedly attempted to rob O’Neal at gunpoint while O’Neal and his cousin were sitting in O’Neal’s car in front of his house. O’Neal reportedly attempted to take the gun away from one of the suspects when it fired and two bullets struck O’Neal in the inner part of his left thigh.
Mayfield said O’Neal was taken to Jackson for further treatment, but he said O’Neal’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Mayfield said his office has two suspects, and he said he expects arrests in the next couple of days.
