VIDALIA &8212; A Vidalia business owner wants answers after his car wash changing machines were stolen Monday morning.
Tony Guillory Jr., owner of Vidalia Wash-N-Go on Carter Street, was notified in the early morning hours that his change machines at the car wash had been stolen. Each machine stolen costs approximately $2,500 and the machines contained around $1,000 each, Guillory said.
&8220;I can&8217;t stand thieves,&8221; he said of the incident. &8220;It&8217;s the brightest place around here and I just don&8217;t see how no one saw it.&8221;
Vidalia Police Chief Billy Hammers said it appeared someone wrapped a chain around the machines located in the concrete building housing the machines, hooked the chain to a vehicle and pulled them out. Hammers said the incident happened around 3 a.m.
&8220;There are no witnesses and this is still under investigation,&8221; Hammers said. &8220;Something like that, somebody ought to have seen.&8221;
Guillory said the robbers appeared to have entered from the back of the building. A crow bar was used to rip off the doorknob after efforts to pry the door open were unsuccessful, he said.
Once inside, the robbers turned off the lights and unbolted the machines, which &8220;must have taken some time,&8221; he said. A car then backed up to the building and chained the machines to the vehicle and pulled them out of the wall, leaving damage to the building and skid marks on the concrete, Guillory said.
&8220;Somebody saw that happen,&8221; he said. &8220;I will give a reward to anybody with information. I just want to people to know who is doing these things so they can be aware too.&8221;
