Taco Del Mar may open soon

Vidalia &8212; Natchez native Jason Breeland said the bid for construction on his new restaurant Taco Del Mar will be in Friday.

The restaurant will be at 1011 Carter St., the location of the old Holsum Bread Store.

&8220;Once the bid is in I think the restaurant could be ready in about eight weeks,&8221; Breeland said.

The concept of the Tex-Mex restaurant chain is similar to a Subway restaurant, where customers can order and watch their food being prepared, Breeland said.

&8220;I first became aware of the restaurant while I was teaching in Seattle, and it quickly became my favorite,&8221; Breeland said.

According to the Taco Del Mar Web site, the menu features classic Tex-Mex style dishes like pork, chicken and beef tacos, burritos and Mexican salads but specializes in fish tacos.

&8220;Everything on the menu is made fresh-to-order and we can accommodate anyone&8217;s taste whether they&8217;re a meat-eater, vegetarian even vegan,&8221; Breeland said.

According to the Web site, the nearest current location for the restaurant is in Flowood.

Breeland said his restaurant would be the first in Louisiana.

&8220;If all goes well with the first one, I plan to open one up in Natchez too,&8221; Breeland said.

Breeland said he thinks his restaurant will do very well in the Miss-Lou.

&8220;Based on how well the Mexican food market is already doing in the area, I think we&8217;ll be very successful,&8221; Breeland said. &8220;There is a very high traffic volume going across the Mississippi River Bridge, there&8217;s easy access from both directions on Carter Street and we&8217;re located near a red light so people can stop and see us.&8221;

Breeland said he is looking forward to moving back to the Miss-Lou after being gone for so long.

&8220;I moved to Seattle in the mid-80s but my wife and two children have visited my family in Natchez over the years,&8221; Breeland said. &8220;We&8217;re really excited and glad to be coming home at last.&8221;
