VIDALIA &8212; Booming growth along the Vidalia Riverfront has led to the creation of a new job.
H.L. Irvin Jr., of Ferriday, was recently hired as the Vidalia Riverfront Director, to assist in the overflow of town duties, Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland said.
&8220;He&8217;ll be working with us on the riverfront and the projects we&8217;ve got going on in the area,&8221; Copeland said.
Irvin, a 21-year veteran of the Concordia Parish school system, has experience in coaching, teaching and maintenance. Maintenance of the entire riverfront will be a major part of the new duties.
&8220;Hyram has a lot of responsibilities and basically, he is delegating the riverfront responsibilities to me,&8221; Irvin said. &8220;This is definitely a city on the move and I&8217;m proud to be a part of it.&8221;
Projects on the riverfront include the Gateway center &8212; a multi purpose convention center &8212; a new boat ramp, a marina and a port.
Irvin will also be included in work toward making Promise Specialty Hospital a reality along the riverfront.
Copeland said the convention center is running approximately three months behind, making Irvin&8217;s job necessary.
&8220;Things are looking good for the Miss-Lou,&8221; Irvin said. &8220;I feel I&8217;m well-suited for this position and glad to be involved in the progression of this city.&8221;
Irvin &8212; a native of the parish and Ferriday High graduate &8212; retired in May from his position as director of maintenance and transportation with the Concordia Parish schools.
The job included the maintenance duties for the 13 parish schools.
Capitol improvement and transportation were his two biggest jobs, he said.
