NATCHEZ — Among other items on their wish list, the Natchez-Adams School Board will ask the state legislature for funding for a pilot pre-kindergarten program.
The school board met briefly to approve items for which they want to lobby to receive state legislature approval.
The board met Thursday night at the Natchez Convention Center following a meeting of all three local governmental boards to discuss recreation.
Other items, which were not discussed in detail, which the board included on its wish list, included the following:
4Full funding to the district by the state based on the Mississippi Adequate Education Program, which calculates the adequate amount of funding districts should receive.
4An amendment to local private legislation that would allow NASD to receive a portion of gaming revenues that are currently shared by the City of Natchez and Adams County.
4Control of the currently privatized Special Education Services, which are offered to students after school for those that require extra tutoring.
4Protection of the current Public Employees’ Retirement System for teachers.
4Development of partnerships with the Mississippi Institute of Higher Learning concerning common core standards, teacher training and vocational education
4Removal of the superintendent’s position from being covered by a protective law to allow the school board to have more control over the superintendent’s contract.
