NATCHEZ &8212; Natchez may have a recreation facility in the near future, complete with swimming pools and exercise equipment.
Mayor Phillip West said at a Natchez Rotary Club meeting Wednesday that he would like to see a facility like the YMCA he visited while in Georgia recently.
The YMCA had swimming pools, a gymnasium, workout equipment and a daycare, West said.
He suggested the city work with either the YMCA or another organization to build a similar facility in Natchez. The mayor said he would meet with a YMCA official Wednesday to discuss possibilities.
A local YMCA facility was discussed earlier in the year, landing a place on the United Way of the Miss-Lou&8217;s list of needs.
West also talked to the Rotary Club about the state of the city at the meeting. He thanked the club for the welcome signs on the edge of the city and said he and the board of aldermen will officially appoint a new city attorney at Tuesday&8217;s meeting.
When asked about blighted property, West said the city could only do so much with the funding they have.
After going through a legal process to tear down a structure, they have to find the money to tear it down, he said.
&8220;The more money we have, the more aggressive we can be,&8221; West said. &8220;Being aggressive and not having money puts us in a difficult situation.&8221;
West also said he was planning on asking Cable One to broadcast local government meetings on the local broadcast station.
