Pro-life battle far from settled, over

You have probably heard it, and I have certainly heard it; abortion supporters have repeatedly declared that the Supreme Court decision Roe vs. Wade is “settled law.”

That’s right — “settled.” What a curious choice of words!

I doubt that you could find an issue today that is more unsettled in the minds of the majority of people than a law which allows abortions at any time for any or no reason whatsoever.

Many pro-life supporters were dismayed by the defeat of the Personhood Amendment last November. As it turns out, there was an unexpected factor at work — an outside influence that we really need to be aware of because it’s a powerful enemy.

According to William Perkins, editor of the “Baptist Record,” Planned Parenthood along with the ACLU hired a Jackson lobbyist, Stan Flint, to organize forces to defeat the Personhood Amendment. He operated under a front group registered by Planned Parenthood that calls itself Mississippi for Healthy Families.

Planned Parenthood sent more than $1 million from 24 different states for the measure’s defeat.

Only six individuals in Mississippi made contributions to oppose the amendment. In other words, it was not the hearts of the people of Mississippi that spoke at the ballot box — it was outsiders working for Planned Parenthood who deliberately planted fear by spreading lies through heavily manned phone banks and massive social media attacks.

In the future, we need to be aware of this vicious and formidable threat and be prepared to meet the challenge armed with the truth.

If the “settled law” advocates think they have had the last word on the subject and that pro-life people will just shut up and go away, they are terribly, terribly mistaken.

They don’t understand that the fight for the lives of the unborn not only is not over, it hasn’t even slowed down, and it will not end until justice is done and each child realizes his inalienable right to life. Then the only thing that’s settled is the dust on the closed book on an overturned an ill-conceived law.

That’s why we will gather at the gazebo on the Natchez bluff for our annual candlelight vigil in observance of the 39th anniversary of the tragedy of legalized abortion.

Our speaker for the occasion will be Dr. Beverly McMillan, a pro-life obstetrician and former abortionist who is the president of Pro-Life Mississippi, our state organization, Dr. McMillan will bring us an important message that you will want to hear.

Please join us at 5:15 p.m. Monday. Your presence means you care enough to stand up for the innocent lives of the least among us.
