VIDALIA — A Vidalia teen was killed and two others — one of them his sister — were injured in an early morning crash Monday.
Jimmy Williams Jr., 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Mooselodge Road accident to which Louisiana State Police Troop E troopers responded at 12:20 a.m.
Williams had to be extricated from the vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt that was driven by 17-year-old Cody McEntyre, according to a news release from the LSP.
McEntyre was reportedly entering a curve in Mooselodge Road when he lost control of the vehicle, which began to rotate to the right. It traveled 160 feet before it exited the right side of the road, traveling another 65 feet before turning onto its left side and striking a utility pole.
McEntyre and the second passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Jenny Jo Williams, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center and treated.
None of the accident victims were wearing seat belts, according to the LSP.
Jenny Jo Williams sustained a fracture in her back and other injuries, her mother Jennifer Williams said.
“She is bumped up pretty good, and it is going to take a few months to get back to herself,” Jennifer Williams said.
Jimmy Williams was a likeable person who had lots of friends, and family members are trying to cope with the loss, his mother said.
“He was a very good person, he was full of life, he was comical, he was a jack-of-all-trades,” Jennifer Williams said. “He was a good kid. He liked to do everything, he worked and he played.”
The accident remains under investigation and routine toxicology tests are pending.
Charges against the driver are also pending, the news release said.
