Boys roundups: Ferriday beats Lake Providence

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. — Richard Jefferson led Ferriday with 16 points as the Trojans hung on for a 47-43 win over the Lake Providence Panthers in LHSAA District 2-2A action Friday night.
Ferriday led Lake Providence 18-10 at the end of the first quarter before the Panthers outscored the Trojans 13-9 in the second quarter to make it a four-point game at halftime. Unfortunately for the Panthers, they couldn’t make up any more ground in the second half and the Trojans escaped with the win.
Brandon Scott added eight points for Ferriday (7-7, 1-1), which next plays at Homer Tuesday night.
WCCA 77, Amite School Center 56
WOODVILLE — Ethan Carruth led Wilkinson County Christian Academy with a game-high 27 points as the Rams overcame an early deficit to defeat the Amite School Center Rebels Friday night in MAIS District 6-A play.
WCCA trailed Amite School Center 17-12 at the end of the first quarter, only to have its way with the Rebels in the second and third quarters as the Rams would take a 54-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
Dre’ Tolliver scored 13 points and Tramel McKinsey finished with 12 points for WCCA (11-4, 3-2). The Rams visit CENLA Christian Academy next Tuesday.
Tensas Academy 48, Chamberlain-Hunt 36
PORT GIBSON — Farrel Keahey led Tensas Academy with a game-high 20 points as the Chiefs used a big third quarter to put away a pesky Chamberlain-Hunt team in MAIS District 6-A action Friday night.
Tensas Academy led Chamberlain-Hunt 17-13 after one quarter of play and then found itself up by just two points, 25-23, at halftime. But in the third quarter, the Chiefs played better defense and that allowed them to outscore CHA 17-7 for a 42-30 lead.
Rush Capdepon chipped in with 11 points for Tensas Academy, which hosts Tallulah Academy Tuesday night.
Block 86, LaSalle 41
OLLA, La. — Dorian Bowman scored 29 points and Trevor Vault had 28 points as the Block Bears rolled past the LaSalle Tigers in an LHSAA District 4-1A game Friday night.
Block led LaSalle 34-18 at halftime and then poured it on in the second half. The Bears outscored the Tigers 20-11 in the third quarter and 33-12 in the fourth quarter.
Jahmal Macklin and William Cummings added 11 points apiece for Block (4-11, 1-0), which next plays at Montgomery on Tuesday.
Brandon 80, Natchez High 49
BRANDON — Natchez High got off to a good start, but the visiting Bulldogs couldn’t keep it going and Brandon took advantage on its way to a 31-point win in MHSAA Region 6-6A action Friday night.
With Derrian Johnson and DeArius Griffin leading the way, Natchez High raced out to an 18-13 lead over Brandon at the end of the first quarter. But the host Bulldogs turned up the defensive pressure and that led to several easy transition baskets. Brandon outscored Natchez High 27-8 in the second quarter to a 40-26 lead at halftime.
Johnson and Griffin each scored 15 points for Natchez High, which fell to 8-11 overall and 0-4 in Region 6-6A. The Bulldogs host McComb Tuesday night.
Buckeye 52, Vidalia 51
BUCKEYE, La. — Vidalia had a three-point lead at halftime, but the Vikings couldn’t hold on to it as the Buckeye Panthers rallied in the second half for a dramatic one-point win in an LHSAA District 3-3A game Friday night.
Vidalia led Buckeye 29-26 at the half after scoring 19 points in the second quarter. But the Panthers responded by outscoring the Vikings 12-11 in the third quarter and 14-10 in the fourth quarter. Buckeye was led by Austin Edwards with a game-high 19 points and Caleb Fuselier had 18 points.
Michael Whitley led Vidalia (7-13, 0-2) with 17 points while Trashone Mayes scored nine points. The Vikings host Jena Tuesday night.
Brookhaven Academy 64,
Trinity Episcopal 42
BROOKHAVEN — Trinity Episcopal had no answer for Brookhaven Academy’s Brennan Millon, who led all scorers with 27 points as the top-ranked Cougars defeated the Saints in MAIS District 5-AA play Friday night.
Brookhaven Academy struggled at times in the first half and only led Trinity by six points, 25-19, at halftime. But the Cougars eventually pulled away thanks in large part to a 22-9 advantage over the Saints in the third quarter.
Jake Winston and Tanner Cage led Trinity Episcopal (13-6, 1-1) with nine points each. The Saints next play at Silliman Institute Monday night.
