Marketing is first step to fame

Let’s face it, not everyone in the world knows where Concordia Parish, La., is.

In fact, it’s likely that very few people have ever heard of it.

That’s no reason to get your feelings hurt about your hometown, but it is reason enough to consider ways to reach out.

The Concordia Economic and Industrial Development District Board of Commissioners is interested in expanding Concordia Parish’s reach.

The economic development arm of local government realizes that in order to land the next big business — or attract a few small ones — the parish must market itself.

It’s no different than the marketing strategy that made Coca-Cola famous, really.

But the parish plans to ask local businesses and governments to contribute to the marketing budget.

It’s an investment worth considering for anyone who lives in the parish.

When business gets involved in recruiting new business, everybody wins.

When business and government work together to fund these efforts, the parish can be unstoppable.

In Natchez, the economic development arm Natchez Inc. has recently launched a new recruiting website.

If the parish does the same, our neck of the woods will truly be out there for interested parties to explore.

The next step, of course, is to market the Miss-Lou as a bigger region, not just two small towns.
