NATCHEZ — Actors and directors always like to get a dress rehearsal in before the curtain opens on opening night.
Football coaches and players are no different, and Cathedral will be hosting a big dress rehearsal the week before the 2010 football season opens on Aug. 20.
The Green Wave will be hosting a jamboree on Aug. 13 featuring Trinity Episcopal, Wilkinson County Christian and St. Aloysius in an effort to get the kinks worked out before the season begins the next week.
“It’s good to get to hit somebody else for a change,” Cathedral head coach Ron Rushing said. “You have a dry run before you start the season and get an idea of what you need to work on in the final week before going into your first game.”
St. Al will play Trinity at 6:30 p.m. in the first game of the jamboree while Cathedral will take on WCCA at 7:30.
With all four schools having a good area fan base, Rushing said he expects to see a good crowd at the jamboree.
“It should be terrific,” Rushing said. “All four schools have a lot of support and there ought to be a lot of people. It should be a big gate that night.”
And playing in front of a big crowd is another good thing that should come out of the jamboree, Rushing said.
“Anytime you can get in a game situation or atmosphere it will help you,” Rushing said. “It helps with the players and the coaches.”
The jamboree will also give coaches a chance to play everybody on the team and see what each player can do.
“The biggest thing is that we’re going to play everyone on the team,” Rushing said. “Everybody will be able to show what they can do. We’ll separate the ones that can from the ones that can’t.”
