FERRIDAY — Services for Janie Carter, 82, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eternal Hope EPC Church in Ferriday with Pastor Parlee Kelly officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Matthews Cemetery at Lake St. John under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Carter was born Aug. 29, 1929, in Ferriday, the daughter of Jack Carter and Luebertha Whitley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Freddie Lewis Jr.; and one daughter, Ruthy Carter.
Survivors include three sons, Henry Johnson and wife, Salana, of New Orleans, Shelly W. Lewis and David Lewis, both of Ferriday; five daughters, Bobbie Black Gibson and husband, Larry, Theresa Lewis, Emma August and husband, Curtis, Jannie Allen and husband, Donovan, all of New Orleans, and Leah Lewis of Ferriday; three brothers, William Carter of Las Vegas, Joe Carter of Ferriday and Sam Carter of New Orleans; five sisters, Porline Brown, Parlee Kelly, Jennie B. Kimble and husband, Johnnie, all of Ferriday, Nancy Carter of Baton Rouge and Lubertha Jackson of New Orleans; 43 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
