FERRIDAY — Here’s to hoping it’s a sunny day in Louisiana when the Delta Music Museum inducts the man who wrote “Rainy Night in Georgia” into its Hall of Fame.
The annual Delta Music Museum Festival, which includes the yearly hall of fame inductions, will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Delta Music Museum Director Judith Bingham said.
This year’s inductee into the Hall of Fame will be swamp-rock musician Tony Joe White, the Oak Grove native who performed the hit “Polk Salad Annie.”
White, who is still a popular performer in Europe, also wrote the song “Steamy Windows,” which Tina Turner popularized in the late 1980s.
Admission to the festival, which will last until after White performs at 3 p.m., will be $3.
“(Attendees) should be expecting music all day from some great entertainers,” Bingham said.
“We have got all types of food vendors and lots of arts and crafts, a plant vendor, and the thing we want everybody to know is we are going to have a lot of children’s games.”
The children’s activities will include a climbing wall and inflatable jumpers, among others, Bingham said.
The festival stage will be located in front of Delta Bank on Louisiana Avenue, and stage setup will begin at approximately 2 p.m. Friday.
Attendees should bring their own seating.
Louisiana Avenue will be closed from its intersection with E.E. Wallace Boulevard to First Street from 6 p.m. Friday through the end of the festival, Bingham said.
Spaces are still available for arts and crafts vendors, but the festival has already booked its maximum number of food vendors, Bingham said.
The fee for an arts and crafts booth is $30. For more information, contact the Delta Music Museum at 318-757-9999.
