VIDALIA — The Concordia Economic and Industrial Development District Board of Commissioners won’t rest until the entire country knows the benefits of Concordia Parish.
During the board’s meeting Wednesday morning, Executive Director Heather Malone said the board will seek supplemental revenue to fund marketing efforts for the entire parish.
One plan includes offering local business and governments investment opportunities in advertising and marketing products the board assembles.
Malone said a price scale would be set up for different business based on the number of employees and various other qualifications.
The board would offer those investors space on a new website, brochures and anything else the board uses for marketing, Malone said.
Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland said the importance of marketing Concordia Parish has never been higher.
“We’re in a position that we need to let the country know where we are, who we are and what we can offer,” Copeland said. “We have to market our area, and for businesses to want to come to the area, they have to know a little about us.”
Malone said the funds business and governments invest would strictly be used for marketing and not toward any other projects of the board.
A more concrete financial plan would be brought to the board next month.
In other news from the meeting:
• The board discussed joint marketing possibilities proposed by the Miss-Lou Regional Steering Committee Wednesday morning.
The committee discussed working as a marketing force for the Miss-Lou, working both internally and externally.
Malone said products like a joint Miss-Lou website and print advertising would greatly benefit the area, to promote the area to potential investors.
• Malone said she would be traveling to Baton Rouge today to attend a regular monthly meeting with the Port Association of Louisiana.
The meetings allow cities with other ports to network and discuss progress or delays with its port projects, Malone said.
Members from the Louisiana Economic Development corporation also attend the monthly meetings.
• The board discussed possible goals for 2012 to 2014 including the Vidalia Port, broadband initiative projects, infrastructure development, marketing and increased visits to businesses.
