BROOKHAVEN — The West Lincoln Bears put on an offensive clinic Tuesday night and there was very little the Cathedral Green Wave could do to stop it — or even slow it down.
Lucas Burris led Class 1A No. 2 West Lincoln with 17 points while Jared Case and Duane Marshall had 14 points each as the Bears roared past Cathedral 90-45 in an MHSAA Region 7-1A game.
The first half belonged to West Lincoln as it led Cathedral 16-6 at the end of the first quarter and 48-14 at the half. The Green Wave played better offensively in the second half, but they didn’t have an answer for the Bears.
D.J. Perry and Jamon Gray were the only players to score in double figures for Cathedral as each of them had 11 points. The Green Wave (11-8, 1-2) play host to third-ranked Piney Woods Friday night.
Lanier 80, Natchez High 69
JACKSON — Natchez High stayed right with Lanier in the first quarter. The problem was, the visiting Bulldogs could not keep up with the host Bulldogs over the next two quarters and went on to lose by 11 points Tuesday night.
Lanier was only up by one point, 18-17, at the end of the first quarter before taking control of the game. Lanier outscored Natchez High 23-14 in the second quarter and 24-16 in the third quarter for a 65-47 lead.
Chris Chandler led Lanier with a game-high 32 points and Andre Funchess had 17 points. Quincey Washington wound up with 19 points and Jadarius Williams scored 14 points to lead Natchez High (8-10), which resumes MHSAA Region 6-6A play on Friday night at Brandon.
Central Private 84,
Centreville Academy 39
CENTREVILLE — Simpson Anderson and Alex Overs scored 17 points apiece to lead five Central Private School players in double figures as the Rebels, ranked No. 3 in Class AA, rolled past MAIS District 6-AA rival Centreville Academy Tuesday night.
Central Private (16-3, 3-0) scored over 20 points in each of the first three quarters. In the second and third quarters, the Rebels had their way with Centreville on both ends of the court. The Tigers ended up being outscored by the Rebels 26-6 in the second quarter to trail at halftime 47-18. The third quarter wasn’t much better for the home team as the Tigers scored just seven points to 22 points for the Rebels.
Centreville (5-12, 0-4) was led by Chance Humphries with 14 points while Jake Darden and Corey Gaulden had six points each. The Tigers host Bowling Green School Friday night.
Caldwell Parish 38, Vidalia 36
COLUMBIA, La. — The Vidalia Vikings didn’t score a single point in the second quarter and that proved to be big as the Caldwell Parish Spartans held on for a two-point win in LHSAA District 3-3A play Tuesday night.
Caldwell Parish ended up turning a three-point lead after one quarter of play into an 11-point lead at halftime. But Vidalia would not go away as the Vikings outscored the Spartans 18-8 in the third quarter to trail by only one point, 29-28. But the Spartans managed to eke out the win thanks to a 9-8 advantage over the Vikings in the fourth quarter.
Dee Whitley had 11 points and Deion Brown added 10 points to lead Vidalia (7-13, 0-1). The Vikings play at Buckeye Friday night.
WCCA 64, Tensas Academy 44
ST. JOSEPH, La. — Tramel McKinsey led Wilkinson County Christian Academy with 17 points and Ethan Carruth had 15 points as the Rams cruised past the Tensas Academy Chiefs in an MAIS District 6-A game Tuesday night.
WCCA (10-4, 2-2) jumped out to a 13-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Rams led by 18 points at halftime and 20 points at the end of the third quarter.
The Chiefs will next play at Chamberlain-Hunt Academy Friday night. The Rams host Amite School Center, also on Friday night.
