NATCHEZ &8212; The Natchez Lady Bulldogs capped off a surprising season with a dominant victory over Port Gibson Wednesday night, taking a 14-2 victory.
Kenesha Jackson got the win on the mound for Natchez High while, also batting 2-for-3 on the day.
The Lady Bulldogs scored seven runs in the first, two in the second and five more in the third to swamp the Lady Waves.
Next up for Natchez is the playoffs, and a Tuesday date at Ocean Springs for a best-of-three series.
Lady Bulldog coach Charlie Williams hoped this win would be the springboard for a prolonged playoff run for Natchez (3-11).
&8220;We&8217;ve been up and down all year,&8221; Williams said. &8220;We haven&8217;t had any kind of consistency. This should help. We&8217;re going to have to have our A-plus game against Ocean Springs.
&8220;We can&8217;t make some of the mistakes we made tonight. We&8217;re going to have to make some two-out hits and play error-free ball.&8221;
Earlier this season, it seemed almost a pipedream for Natchez to be in the playoffs, and Williams was proud of the girls who helped make it happen.
&8220;At one time, it didn&8217;t look like we were going to be here,&8221; he said. &8220;We were fortunate to turn things around. I was happy with the girls. They&8217;ve been more enthusiastic, although they need to be more enthusiastic when we&8217;re playing the good teams, too.&8221;
Natchez High takes on Ocean Springs Tuesday afternoon on the road. The best-of-three series will begin at 2 p.m. Game two is set for 3:30, and game three, if necessary, will go down at 5.
