Nearly 50 years ago, leaders in Concordia Parish saw the need to have a little fun in Vidalia.
On May 28, 1958, the trigger was pulled on a venture that has created fun for young and old alike for several generations of Vidalia area residents by forming Recreation District No. 3.
As the old adage says, &8220;All work and no play,&8221; well, it just makes life dull. Thanks to the wise use of your tax dollars &8212; if you live in the precincts affected &8212; happiness and smiles have been seen across the area for nearly half a century.
On Saturday you can help perpetuate those smiles and the thousands and thousands of happy moments created through the efforts of the district by simply saying &8220;yes&8221; to a renewal tax on the ballot.
The word &8220;tax&8221; almost always causes a large segment of the population to cringe. However, in this case, this isn&8217;t a new tax; you&8217;ve been paying it for years.
And it isn&8217;t to line some fat cat politician&8217;s pockets either.
This is a tax of which you can tangibly see the benefit. Go out to one of the many recreational ventures managed by the district and see how many smiles a few pennies of your taxes buy each year.
We urge all residents within the district to vote &8220;yes&8221; on Saturday and in doing so, say, &8220;I love having a good time.&8221;
