Trinity looks to rebound from tough homecoming loss this week on road

NATCHEZ &8212; Losing is never easy, and is especially tough when a team has been riding high all season, but David King and the Trinity Saints (5-1) are looking to rebound Friday night when they travel to face Tri-County (3-4).

King said the Saints simply didn&8217;t have their heads in the game in last week&8217;s homecoming loss to Central Private.

&8220;It was a lot of missed assignments,&8221; King said. &8220;We were not where we were supposed to be defensively most of the game. It was just what I expected. A lot of kids had their heads in other places. That happens sometimes with 16-year-olds. Every mistake we made is correctable, and that&8217;s a good thing. I thought the effort was there. They played harder than I thought at first.&8221;

With a stretch of four straight potential playoff teams still awaiting them, the Saints will have to turn things around quickly.

&8220;We&8217;ve got about 50 posters in the locker room about them being No. 3 (in the Clarion-Ledger poll),&8221; King said. &8220;If they don&8217;t like it, it&8217;s around to remind them. They realize they didn&8217;t put forth their best effort last week. Everybody loves to have that dream season and go undefeated, but that doesn&8217;t always happen. I want to play my best football now &8212; late in the season. I always want to improve every week.&8221;

King said Tri-County would bring a speedy rushing attack.

&8220;They&8217;re a little smaller than we are and they&8217;ve got quick backs,&8221; he said. &8220;They&8217;re primarily a run-oriented football team. It&8217;s going to be a question of who comes out wanting to hit each other in the mouth first.&8221;

King also mentioned he might open up the playbook with the tough slate remaining.

Tri-County will host the Saints at 7 p.m. Friday.

University Christian at Huntington

The Huntington Hounds (7-0), will try to avoid Trinity&8217;s fate as they host University Christian (4-3) for homecoming Friday night.

Huntington head coach Chad Harkins was making sure to keep his team focused for the task at hand.

&8220;They&8217;re 4-3, and we barely beat them last year,&8221; he said. &8220;They&8217;re better than they were last year. It&8217;s homecoming, and there are a lot of distractions. I hope (we can keep focused). We don&8217;t need any letdowns.&8221;

Harkins said the Flames&8217; quarterback would be the difference-maker in the game.

&8220;Their quarterback is a fast kid,&8221; he said. &8220;They&8217;ve got a big 6&8217;5&8221;, 230-pound fullback. They like to run the wishbone and run right off tackle. That quarterback likes to run on bootlegs and throw on play-action plays.&8221;

The Hounds will host University Christian at 7 p.m.

Brookhaven Academy at ACCS

The Rebels will host the second-ranked team in the MPSA&8217;s Class AA Friday night when they face undefeated Brookhaven Academy (7-0).

ACCS head coach Bobby Marks said the Rebels (3-4) would have their work cut out for them, but he felt they would have a chance to win the game.

&8220;We&8217;re going to try to give them all we&8217;ve got,&8221; he said. &8220;It may not be enough, but we&8217;ll try. They&8217;ve got a running quarterback like you&8217;ve never seen. He&8217;s not big, he&8217;s just shifty and fast.&8221;

Marks went on to elaborate on Brookhaven quarterback Price Sessums&8217;s abilities.

&8220;He throws the ball really well,&8221; Marks said. &8220;He&8217;s not big. He&8217;s not tall. He&8217;s just hard to get a hold of. He&8217;s the one that&8217;s been beating other teams from what other coaches have told me. He&8217;s been starting for three years so he&8217;s got plenty of experience.&8221;

The Rebels will host Brookhaven at 7 p.m.

Columbia Academy at Centreville

The Tigers (6-1) return home after a dramatic win over Oak Forest to face Columbia Academy (3-4).

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Centreville.

WCCA at Oak Forest

On a night when the Rams (1-6) were expected to be celebrating homecoming, they will instead be on the road to face Oak Forest Friday night.

WCCA&8217;s scheduled homecoming game with Union Academy was cancelled when Union elected to drop football. Homecoming has been rescheduled for Nov. 3, and next week&8217;s date with Oak Forest was moved up.

Oak Forest has lost three in a row to drop to 2-5 on the season.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Riverfield at Tensas

The Tensas Academy Chiefs (2-5) will have their work cut out for them on homecoming as they host Riverfield (6-1).

The Chiefs will kick things off a 7 p.m.
