NATCHEZ — Services for Jimmy Hugh Pendergrast Sr., 74, of Natchez, who died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, in Natchez, will be at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Wynn and Dr. Doug Broome officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Pendergrast was born April 27, 1937, in Embry, the son of J.S. Pendergrast and Christine Caroll Pendergrast.
He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and served the in Army Reserve. He worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Natchez, where he served as director of training union, taught many years in the children’s department and served on my committees including the grounds committee, nominating committee and finance committee. He also served as chairman of the deacons. In 2010, he was recognized as Deacon Emeritus because of his many years of faithful service to the Lord. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed duck hunting and playing golf with friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Brynda Pendergrast; two sons, James Pendergrast and wife, Stacey, of Houston; and Stephen Pendergrast and wife, Aveina, of Spring, Texas; four grandchildren, Jacob, David and Tate Pendergrast, all of Houston, and Andrew Pendergrast of Spring; and one sister, Roslyn Anthony and husband, Larry, of Columbus, Ga.
Pallbearers will be Forest Persons, Glenn Harrison, Kenneth Moss, Paul Allen, Charles Hord and Billy Pyron.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Rice, Lynwood Easterline, Charles Stephens, members of Jim’s Sunday school class and deacons of First Baptist Church.
