Green Wave gets one step closer to playoff berth

NATCHEZ &8212; Cathedral earned another key win in its chase for a playoff berth, knocking off Stringer 41-14 thanks to a balanced offensive attack, which scored six touchdowns.

Cathedral quarterback Patrick McDonough was sick all week, but showed no ill effects Friday, passing for 195 yards and two touchdowns on offense.

McDonough played sparingly on defense, but made a difference as he came up with an interception.

At the end of the first quarter it was anyone&8217;s ballgame as the score was tied 7-7.

Stringer quarterback Charlie Fall put his team on the board first as he connected with Chance Yelverton from 36 yards out in the opening minutes of the first quarter.

McDonough provided the Green Wave&8217;s answer with just 15 seconds left to play in the period connecting on a 55-yard pass to Taylor Brantley.

Taylor Brantley gave Cathedral the go-ahead score in the second period, when he scampered in from seven yards out.

Patrick McDonough gave the Green Wave a commanding 21-7 lead at halftime,

when he punched the ball in from one yard out with just over a minute left to play in the half.

In the second half the Green Wave cruised to victory behind a pair of Lee Hash touchdowns and a McDonough touchdown pass.

Touchdown runs and another McDonough touchdown pass, this time connecting with Braxton Fondren.

Next week Cathedral travels to play at Salem.
