good news

Good morning and good Monday. Wow, as we look at the calendar we notice that the end of July is nearly here. The month seems to have flown by and almost each day has had some good news for our community. This morning we pause to reflect on some of that good news.

4The Natchez Trails Project got the go-ahead nod this week from the U.S. Senate. After the group approved $500,000 for the project, the plans move to a conference committee where the differences between the bill approved by the House &8212; which provided $650,000 &8212; and the Senate version will get hammered out. When complete the project will include a downtown walking tour trails along with riverfront walking and biking trails and a &8220;museum of the streets&8221; which will feature kiosks helping interpret the area&8217;s history.

4Kayaking enthusiast Keith Benoist brought together area leaders to discuss the feasibility of creating a white-water rafting park in the Miss-Lou. The idea is an exciting one and certainly needs more consideration and study.

4Vidalia is poised to be home to a new rubber recycling plant. LIEL, a research company, plans to put the plan in the town&8217;s industrial park as soon as its environmental permits are approved.

4Work continues on the Vidalia Riverfront, which just seems to keep getting bigger and better. The next plan will include the construction of a boat ramp and marina.
