VIDALIA — Services for Anna Elizabeth “Bussy” Calhoun, 91, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Natchez Community Hospital, were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father George Pookkattu and Father Paul Kunnampuram officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Calhoun was born March 21, 1920, in Vidalia, the daughter of Robert Dabney Calhoun and Anna Maria Perrault Calhoun.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia, the Ladies Altar Society and the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. Anna received the ceremonial scapular or habit of the Order on Dec. 6, 1960, in the first group of 10 members at the time of the foundation of the Vidalia Community. At the time she entered Carmel it was customary to select a name and title “in religion,” and she chose “Mary Frances of the Holy Spirit.” During her 52 years of membership she held every elected and appointed office within the community multiple times and was serving as councilor at the time of her death. She regularly participated in provincial and national congresses of the Order.
Calhoun is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Nathan M. Calhoun and wife, Jean, and Robert D. Calhoun Jr.; and a nephew, Robert M. Calhoun.
Survivors include two nieces, Mary Ann Carter and husband Mark and Katharine Calhoun, all of Vidalia; one great niece, Tamara Calhoun of Romans, France; two great nephews, Mark Carter Jr. and wife, Jessica, and Will Carter; one great-great nephew; and a special friend, Catherine LeBouef.
Pallbearers will be Mark Carter, Mark Carter Jr., Will Carter, Charles Falkenheiner, S.A. Murray III and Bill Murray.
Honorary pallbearers will be Earl LeBouef, Mike Lane and Bill McDonough.
Memorials may be sent to a charity of choice.
