MEADVILLE &8212; It was a disappointing end to a good season for the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the Class 3A South State playoffs.

After winning the division championship for the first time in 19 years, Franklin County was primed to go deep in the playoffs. That was until the West Marion Lady Trojans rolled into town and swept the best two-of-three series with a pair of one-run wins, 11-10 and 6-5.

&8220;It wasn&8217;t any one special play they made,&8221; Franklin County head coach Dana Smith said. &8220;They scored on our errors. That was the big thing. &8221;

In the first game, West Marion, which finished second in Division 7-3A, had an 11-8 lead going to the bottom of the seventh inning until Monea Cameron hit a two-run home run with one out to cut the lead to one run.

However, Lady Trojans&8217; winning pitcher Bianca Lewis got the next two batters to fly out to end the rally and the game.

West Marion had 19 hits and took advantage of five Franklin County errors. The Lady Bulldogs had 16 hits in the game.

&8220;They hit the ball well tonight,&8221; Smith said. &8220;We made a few errors and they scored on those errors.&8221;

The first game was a seesaw battle as West Marion took a 2-0 lead after one inning before Franklin County (17-12), the Division 6-3A champion, scored three runs in the bottom of the second.

The Lady Trojans took control with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth for a 9-5 lead.

Franklin County, however, got back in the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to trail West Marion 9-8.

Cameron and Vanity Green each hit home runs for Franklin County while Lewis went 4-for-4 with a home run in the first game. Green went 3-for-4 and Latonya Williams was 3-for-3.

Game 2 didn&8217;t have the offensive firepower Game 1 did, but it was just as dramatic.

Franklin County, which was the visiting team in the second game, scored three runs in the top of the fifth for a 5-4 lead before West Marion won the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Cameron went 3-for-3 with a double and Morgan Knapp went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Bulldogs&8217; 12-hit attack.

&8220;We played a lot better (than at the Brookhaven Tournament),&8221; Smith said. &8220;I&8217;m disappointed that we couldn&8217;t get to the end of it, but I&8217;m not disappointed in my team at all. We fought hard.&8221;
