MCCALL, La. &8212; The Ferriday Trojans (6-1, 1-0 district) rebounded in a big way from last week&8217;s loss to Sterlington by opening up district play with a 49-22 win over Madison Parish (2-6) Friday night.
The Trojans jumped out to a 27-8 lead before the Jaguars scored two quick touchdowns before the half to pull within 27-22 at halftime.
The Trojans took the second half kickoff and marched down the field for a touchdown and never looked back on their way to the blowout victory.
Ferriday head coach James McFarland said the game turned by the play of the offensive line.
&8220;They took charge in the second half of the football game,&8221; McFarland said. &8220;They were dominant. We took care of the ball. We may have thrown five passes. We ran straight at them. We felt that we could outman them, and I think we did. I&8217;m not sure in terms of the rushing yardage, but I know it was over 300 yards, easily.&8221;
McFarland felt the district win was a big one for Ferriday.
&8220;We knew it was going to be a tough ballgame,&8221; he said. &8220;We haven&8217;t won in McCall in a while. We overcame some things. It feels good to win at McCall.&8221;
While last week&8217;s loss still lingers, McFarland said the team was now solely focused on winning district and reaching the playoffs.
&8220;Our goal at the beginning of the season was to repeat as district champions,&8221; he said. &8220;Next week we&8217;ve got Lake Providence coming, and we&8217;re just going to take care of what we do.&8221;
The Trojans will host Lake Providence (3-5, 0-1) in a homecoming district contest next Friday night at 7.
