NATCHEZ &8212; Brittany D. Kelly, 16, arrested Nov. 17 on charges of murder, was charged with two counts of uttering a forgery Wednesday.
Bond was set for $10,000 for each charge, and when added to the $100,000 bond for previous charges, brought her total bond to $120,000. Kelly pleaded not guilty at Monday&8217;s arraignment.
Adams County Sheriff Ronny Brown said Kelly tried to cash two checks in September forged to look like they were signed by a family member.
The checks were for $300 and $200, Brown said.
Kelly was charged with the Sept. 24 death of her mother, Jacquelyn Thompson, 35, 48 B Proby Road. Thompson died of a bullet wound to the head, officials said at the time.
&8220;The forgery happened before the murder,&8221; Brown said Wednesday.
He said his office did not know if the alleged forgeries and Thompson&8217;s death were connected.
Brown said both the forgery case and the homicide case were still &8220;wide open,&8221; and that his office still had more people of interest.
He said his office did plan to make another arrest, but he would not elaborate on the details.
Property has been submitted to make Kelly&8217;s bond, but the necessary title and proof of possession was not presented, Brown said. He said his office has never approved a $100,000 bond, and he wanted to make sure everything was in order if Kelly&8217;s was approved.
