Smith team wins championship

The Randy Smith senior team was crowned champion at the Black American Softball Association Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, the second year in a row for the team to claim the title.
Smith, a Natchez native, sponsors numerous teams, including a prison ministry team, from his home in Lafayette, where he and his wife, Helen Moss Smith, also a Natchez native, own Randy Smith Training Solutions.
The couple started their business to provide oilfield training in 40 counties. Now the business has grown to 20,000 students, including local drilling contractor Energy Drilling in Natchez.
Smith is the son of Harvey and Katie Ruth Boyte of Natchez. Helen Smith is the daughter of Margaret Moss and the late Dr. George Moss of Natchez.
Randy Smith played basketball at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson and later at Delta State University.
The Smiths have four children, Hannah Smith of Los Angeles; Marietta Ruth Smith of Dallas; Randall Smith Jr., a student at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge; and Andrew Smith, a high school student in Lafayette.
