NATCHEZ &8212; Aided by a 17-0 third quarter run, the Bogue Chitto Bobcats came to Natchez and went home with a 67-61 win over Cathedral Tuesday.

Despite a 38-point performance by Juan Gray, the Green Wave (3-6, 0-1 district) was unable to get over the hump even after leading throughout much of the first half.

The Green Wave took their first lead at 15-13 late in the first quarter, and were not behind again until a Bobcat basket with 6:07 to go in the third.

That basket was part of a 17-0 run that turned a 26-24 Cathedral lead into a 41-26 deficit.

Keyonna Perkins led Bogue Chitto with 24 points, and Dante Ratcliff scored 13. Antwain Lyons and Mario Addison pitched in 12 apiece.

Keylann Hinson scored 11 for Cathedral.

&8220;The key was we switched from a zone defense to a man and were more aggressive in the second half,&8221; said Bogue Chitto coach Andy Smithie. &8220;We created some fast break opportunities.&8221;

Those fast break opportunities were just what Cathedral coach Peter Arnold went into the game looking to avoid.

&8220;Our strategy was to play strong team defense in the 2-3 zone, rebound the ball well and grab every loose ball,&8221; Arnold said. &8220;We did that in the first half, but for about five or six minutes in the third quarter we weren&8217;t making our shots and we weren&8217;t doing any of those things.

&8220;Overall, this was a pretty good performance. We&8217;re just not playing 32 minutes yet. We wanted to keep the tempo down, and in the second half we weren&8217;t able to do that as much.&8221;

Cathedral pulled within three with two minutes to go after a Gray jumper, but two layups in a row by Lyons put the game away.

The win improved Bogue Chitto to 3-2 on the season, and 1-0 in district play.

&8220;It feels good to come in here and get a district win,&8221; Smithie said. &8220;We were lucky to get a win with as poorly as we shot in the first half.&8221;
