Matt Rutherford has joined The Natchez Democrat staff as sports writer and outdoors editor.

Rutherford, 23, is a native of Hernando. He is a University of Mississippi graduate with a major in journalism.

At the university, he was a staff writer for The Daily Mississippian.

Rutherford previously worked at the DeSoto Times as a sports editor and at Southaven Press as a writer.
