It was a match-up between two of the top three teams in Class A in the boys’ championship game of the Prairie View Tournament Saturday night as No. 3 Huntington took on No. 1 and undefeated Riverdale.
Led by Antonio Jordan and Zack Brown, the Hounds asserted themselves as a legitimate state title contender with a stunning 67-55 win over the Rebels, who are undefeated no longer.
Riverdale took a 17-14 lead after one quarter of play, but once Huntington (12-1) took the lead in the second quarter, the Rebels played catch up the rest of the game.
Jordan and Brown were instrumental in the Hounds’ big win as they finished with 23 and 21 points, respectively, and Ricky Dunbar contributed with 10 points.
Huntington erased Riverdale’s early lead by outscoring the Rebels 18-10 in the second quarter to take a 32-27 halftime lead.
Eric Ebert scored 17 points and Jay Perkins had 14 points to lead the Rebels.
