MEADVILLE — Services for James Charles Temple, 87, of Meadville, who died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Cox officiating.

Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery in Meadville under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Temple was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Meadville, the son of Charles Pursey and Clara Stevens Temple. He was a graduate of Meadville High School and was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1944. He was shipped to France to serve during World War II where he was wounded. For his service to his country, he received two Purple Hearts, European-African Eastern Campaign Medal, Victory World War II Medal, Bronze Star Medal for Honor or Meritorious Achievement, the Overlord Campaign Medal for Omaha Beach and Bronze Medal for Efficiency, Honor, Fidelity.

Mr. Temple attended watch repair school in Ellisville. For a number of years thereafter, he repaired and collected antique watches and clocks.

In the 1960s, he was a member of the Franklin County School Board.

Mr. Temple was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Morris Temple and Elton Temple; one sister, Annette Tyson; one grandson, Andrew Jones; one niece, Dorothy Hancock; one nephew, Ronald Temple; and one great-nephew, Jeff Temple.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Marcaline Freeman Temple; three daughters, Lydia Buttross and husband, Robert, of Natchez, Mary Childs and husband, Michael, of Meadville and Jane Jones and husband, Lemuel of McCall Creek; one granddaughter, Dr. Leanne Buttross of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one grandson, Christopher Jones of McCall Creek; one sister-in-law, Margaret “Tiny” Temple of Meadville; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Ed Norton, Gene Lee, David Temple, Bobby Tyson, William Tyson and great-nephew, Ed Norton III.

Special thanks to the doctors and the staff at Promise Hospital for the wonderful care given to Mr. Temple. The family also expresses their appreciation to Bonnie Oglesby for her exceptional service as caregiver to Mr. Temple.
