BATON ROUGE — Services for Maurice Daniel “Dan” Sturgeon, 81, of Zachary, La., who died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospice, The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, were Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., in Baton Rouge, with Dr. Wayne Barnes and Dr. Brythel Brantley officiating.

Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Natchez with the Rev. Paul Southerland officiating.

Mr. Sturgeon was a native of Vidalia. He was retired as plant manager at Westinghouse Corporation in Atlanta.

He was a Master Mason and educated machinist. He enjoyed traveling and cruises with his wife, Helen. He also cherished holidays, birthdays and a number of other happy times spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sturgeon was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen Russell Sturgeon; his parents, Charles M. Sturgeon and Lillie Ferrell Sturgeon; his brother, C.L. Sturgeon and four sisters, Viola Jensen, Doris Johnese, Bobbie Comer and Oma Brown.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorie Poche and husband, Joe, of Destrehan, La., and Dana Sturgeon Bradshaw and husband, Gary, of Baton Rouge; one son, Dan Sturgeon Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Zachary; six grandchildren, Neal Poche, Brian Poche, Jessica Sanchez, Daniel Sturgeon, Christy Sturgeon and Michelle Sturgeon; and seven great-grandchildren, Jose Sanchez Jr., Allison Poche, Luke Sanchez, Nicholas Poche, Nathan Poche, Anna Poche and Ian Sturgeon.

Pallbearers were Daniel Sturgeon, Brian Poche, Neal Poche, Joe Poche, Gary Bradshaw and Jose Sanchez Sr.

Honorary pallbearers were Leslie Vance and Henry Comer.
