Real estate professionals place high emphasis on a piece of property&8217;s location. Where is the property in relation to other things, such as highway access, schools, hospitals, shopping centers or industrial areas?

The reason property location is so critical to its value is that location cannot be changed.

Once a structure is built, moving it can be difficult and costly, if not impossible.

The City of Natchez is considering two options for development of the Roth Hill property just below the bluffs at the end of Main Street.

Both options under consideration include construction in the riverfront area reclaimed below the bluffs. Interestingly, both developments include casino gambling, which is usually a hot topic unto itself.

Anything the city ultimately decides to do with the Roth Hill property should only be after significant thought and public discussion.

The history of the site needs to be considered as does whether or not building in the spot is wise.

The forces of nature, from the Mississippi River&8217;s powerful current to the crumbling bluffs overhead that were stabilized a few years back, need to be considered before moving ahead.

The Natchez Board of Aldermen will hear public comments on the issues at two meetings Monday, one at 4 p.m. and one at 5:30 p.m.

Two questions at the top of our list are: Has an independent source proven that the site is structurally safe on which to develop? Do the majority of the city&8217;s residents want another casino in town?

Just because something can be built there, doesn&8217;t mean it should be built there.
