Chamber honors are well deserved

In horseracing terms, Tuesday night was a trifecta. If hockey had been the game of the evening Tuesday at the Natchez Convention Center, spectators would certainly have marveled at the &8220;hat trick,&8221; as it&8217;s referred.
The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce hit the grand slam Tuesday in selecting three much deserving winners for the group&8217;s annual awards.
Long time City Attorney Walter Brown could have easily earned the Natchezian of the Year award merely for his years in guiding the city through the legal land mines that accompany public life.
But Brown&8217;s resume for the award dates back to his days as a Mississippi legislator from Natchez and his years and years serving on the State Ethics Commission. Fortunately, for the city he loves so deeply, his community involvement and activities haven&8217;t ended. He&8217;s still involved today and Natchez is a better place &8212; and will continue to be a better place &8212; thanks to his dedication and public service.
The Woman of the Year honors went to Rene Adams, a familiar face to almost anyone who has done anything in Natchez lately. Adams has worked in a number of fields including tourism and now in radio sales management, but it was her multitude of community endeavors that earned her the appreciation of her peers. Again, much deserve credit.
Finally, the Business of the Year honors went to Alcorn State University, one of the top jewels in the crown of Natchez. Alcorn&8217;s involvement and commitment in Natchez cannot be truly quantified. The school&8217;s impact is immense in the past and looks to be equally important in the future.
Congratulations to all three winners, but the real winner is the community in which these great people and entities serve.
