NATCHEZ — Approximately 3,000 residential and commercial Entergy residents and 50 Southwest Mississippi Electric Power residents experienced power outages this morning, but are back on the grid as of this afternoon.

Tim Runnels, Entergy customer service manager in Natchez, said transmission going to the Johns Manville substation on Liberty Road was lost this morning at approximately 7:30 a.m.

“We’ve got people scattered right now doing switching and hopefully we can get everybody back up this morning,” Runnels said.

Entergy employees will work to switch and reroute downed lines to other switches that are open, Runnels said.

First to receive attention this morning were Natchez Regional Medical Center and Natchez Community Hospital, which regained full power at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Runnels said the main residential areas to lose power were Seargent S. Prentiss Drive and Duncan Park areas.

With heavy rains entering the area this morning, Runnels said he is not sure what exactly caused the substation to lose transmission, but that a backup plan is always in place.

“Anytime you have equipment like that, you have to be ready for anything,” Runnels said.
