VIDALIA — Johnny Lee Hoffpauir might have retired from teaching at Vidalia High School, but that doesn’t mean he wants to give up his baseball coaching gig just yet.
Hoffpauir retired from his teaching position at Vidalia High at Tuesday night’s school board meeting, but has requested that he be allowed to remain coach of the Vikings baseball team, a job he has held for over 30 years.
“I want to keep doing that for at least one more year,” Hoffpauir said. “I’ve got to go in front of the board in two weeks and they’ll make a decision (on the request) then.”
Hoffpauir said he didn’t know whether the board would grant his request, but hoped his over 30 years of coaching would sway the board’s decision.
“It’s really up to them,” Hoffpauir said. “I’ve been doing it for 30-plus years and I want to keep going.”
