Two shootings Monday night in Natchez were likely not related, Police Chief Mike Mullins said.

An arrest has been made in the first incident, which sent a 15-year-old boy to the hospital.

Frederick Redden, 15, 601 Old Washington Road, was arrested at 11:10 p.m. Monday night. The shooting occurred at 5:50 p.m. at Holiday Apartments.

Redden has been charged with aggravated assault against the other teen and against his mother, who was also present.

The victim was shot in the knee and hand and has been treated and released from a local hospital.

The weapon used, a handgun, has not been recovered, Mullins said.

Bond for Redden won’t be set until an arraignment.

“This was stemming from an ongoing fight,” Mullins said. “They were acquaintances.”

Approximately an hour-and-a-half later, a second shooting occurred on Jackson Street, off Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

No arrest has been made in connection to this case, Mullins said.

Another 15-year-old was shot in the thigh in the Jackson Street incident. He was transported to a local hospital, then to University Medical Center in Jackson, Mullins said. The bullet struck his femur.

Mullins said Monday night that the two incidents might be related, but said Tuesday it now appears that they are not connected.

The victim in the second shooting was visiting Natchez from Ferriday.

The Monday night shootings made three in a three-day period for Natchez. An unrelated shooting occurred early Saturday morning on Franklin Street. A 23-year-old woman was injured in that incident. An arrest was made that night.
