A Clayton teenager has died from injuries sustained in a car accident that occurred Sunday.
Brittany Necole Jefferson, 16, was driving on Louisiana 900 in Clayton when the one-car accident occurred. She was driving alone.
Jefferson, a 10th-grade student at Ferriday High School, died at Louisiana Medical Center in Shreveport.
FHS Principal Michelle Bethea said Monday the school was struggling with the loss.
“She was a good student,” Bethea said. “I don’t remember Brittany ever getting into any trouble. She was full of school pride all the time.”
Extra counselors and social workers were brought into FHS Monday to talk with students and teachers.
“We want to make sure they express how the feel,” Bethea said. “The whole school wants to do something for her mother. And especially the 10th-grade class, they wanted me to tell her mother they are going to do something big.”
Bethea said FHS will pull together to get through the week and coming months.
“The teachers are having a hard time,” she said. “But the FHS family, we are just trying to comfort each other.”
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Concordia Funeral Home, but Bethea said a service was scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Harvest Baptist Church in Ferriday. She said she expects most of the school will attend the service.
