Out-of-towners shouldn’t complain

I was really interested in the letter from a past resident of Natchez that now lives in Dauphin Island, Ala., and how proud he is that he was able to escape our beautiful town. After reading his article, and the criticisms of both the city and county governments, I wondered why he was still reading the local paper and taking the time to write letters to the editor if he dislikes Natchez so much. I did notice that he said he lived and made a living for most of his life here but now lives elsewhere and just criticizes — hum!
I will agree that the politicians in this area make plenty of mistakes and bad choices — they also make some good choices. I’ve lived in 10 towns in my life and I don’t remember a single one that had a perfect political climate. Of course, I’ve never lived in Dauphin Island, Ala. I also don’t read the newspaper from any of my previous towns and write derogatory letters to the editors about a town I left. Just think, if it weren’t for politicians, what would the media do for a living — sports and comic strips? I guess if this gentleman wanted to make things better, he could move back and run for office.
On another note, I have a solution to the repaving all the streets in Natchez. One police officer stationed at the post office giving out tickets for illegal parking in the handicap parking spaces would surely pay for the officer’s time and all paving costs. There may even be enough left over to help the post office pay for re-painting the stripes in the parking lot. Just a thought.
