NATCHEZ — Tanner Cage scored the first 11 points of the game Saturday afternoon to jump-start the Trinity Episcopal boys’ basketball team to a 56-30 win over Oak Forest.

The Saints jumped out to a 14-0 lead with Cage’s 11 points and a three-point basket by Trey Fleming.

Trinity continued to stretch its lead in the first half, and by halftime the Saints led 30-8.

“We were much more enthused to play basketball than we were last night (in a win over Tallulah),” Trinity head coach David King said.

Cage finished the game with 17 points, and the Saints were able to play all 12 players in the contest. Ten Trinity players scored in the game.

Sky Logan also finished the game in double digits with 11 points for the Saints. Tommy McCoy and Trae McKenzie each had five points, while Carter Smith and Taylor Strahan added four a piece for Trinity.

Logan, Smith and McKenzie each pulled down seven rebounds for Trinity.

Trinity played well on defense in the game as well. The Saints kept the Yellow Jackets from scoring double-figure points in all but one quarter.

King said his team is still trying to find its identity just five games into the season.

“We are still trying to find out who we are,” he said. “We have guys coming back from injuries, but we have the makings of a good team.”

King said his team has had more games than practices so far this season, and picking up wins early is important.

“(Oak Forest) is a well-coached MAIS-AA team,” he said. “Anytime you can win is good. We are still learning where we are and getting back into basketball mode.”

Devin Conti led Oak Forest with 14 points in the game.

The win puts Trinity at 5-0 on the season. The Saints will hit the courts again Monday when they travel to face Prairie View.

Oak Forest girls 47, Trinity 18

The Trinity Episcopal girls’ basketball team continued to struggle offensively Saturday afternoon in a 47-18 loss to Oak Forest.

The Lady Saints scored just 28 points Friday night in a win over Tallulah Academy, and their offensive woes continued Saturday.

Trinity fell behind 15-7 after one quarter and was unable to score at all in the second quarter. Oak Forest took a 27-7 lead into the half.

Trinity scored just six points in the third quarter and five in the fourth to finish the game.

Margaret Ward led the Lady Saints offense with nine points. Abbey Ashmore scored five points for Trinity, and Patsy Coffey and Gabby Knight added two each.

The loss dropped the Lady Saints to 4-3 on the season. They will face Prairie View Monday.
