Pecan debacle denotes time for change

It is time for our elected officials to stop, take a step back, take a deep breath and think about their actions instead of shooting from the hip.
If we are going to tear down buildings that are a safety threat, let’s start with the old Sears building in Tracetown!
Or, as stated in an earlier column, the old First Baptist Church! Or houses that are an eyesore! The list could go on and on.
Like Kevin Cooper, I am not in love with the pecan factory. My concern is that one person believes he is above the law. All we have to offer to the world is our jewel of a city and the two colleges located here. We must take necessary steps to see that we take care of what we have.
I do not understand why the Public Works Department does not know how much the demolition cost.
Even though it was “just … fuel and time,” fuel and time cost money. This casual attitude toward the city’s money (that is taxpayers’ money) is ridiculous.
It is time to elect new officials.
It is time to think about consolidating city and county departments.
It is time to think about outsourcing.
It is time for a new direction.
Tony Byrne, where are you?
