NATCHEZ — Patrons with two legs can help their four-legged friends Friday.
Mae Holyoak, Sophie Webber, Alexandra Person and Madison Delaney will man Mae and Friends Lemonade Stand from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday in front of the Natchez Convention Center.
The girls will sell lemonade, cookies and their original artwork to benefit the Natchez-Adams Country Humane Society and the NACHS building fund.
Lemonade will sell for $1 per cup and cookies will be $1 per bag. Artwork, which includes painted wooden crosses, note cards, drawings, paperweights and coasters, will sell for $1 to $5 each.
Ginna Holyoak, Mae Holyoak’s mother, said the idea began three years ago when Mae expressed interest in having a lemonade stand. Originally the family was going to set one up in front of their house, but Mae’s father John Holyoak suggested they put the stand up in front of Dunleith where he works.
“She made close to $300 that year,” Ginna said. “She doesn’t need anything so we all decided to just donate the money. We have five dogs and love cats, too so we thought this was a good way to get Mae started helping others.”
Last year, two of Mae’s friends, Sophie and Alexandra, joined in and the girls raised more than $1,000.
“All of these girls love animals and love that the money is going to help our local animals,” Ginna said. “The two friends from last year are back, and we have added one more. They really love what they are doing.”
Sophie is the daughter of Torri and Trey Webber; Alexandra is the daughter of Elizabeth and Arty Person and Madison is the daughter of Sara Delaney and Will Delaney.
