Accusations on attorney general incorrect

Your editorial, Adams County needs AG’s attention (Feb. 26) is full of misinformation which provides a great disservice to your readers.
Comment on the pecan factory issue may have been limited from the Attorney General’s Office, but that does not mean the Attorney General is ignoring the issue. When asked, I explained to your reporter that it is a matter of policy for our office not to comment on pending litigation. There are logical and ethical reasons for that policy, including the fact that we try our cases in a court of law, not in the press. It is inexplicable how you claim to make a “logical assumption.”
I think “lazy assumption” is much more accurate because you failed to get your facts straight first. Take, for instance, your complaint about a trial date in the Binkey Vines case. It is up to the judge to set the trial date, not the Attorney General; a fact I pointed out to your reporter upon inquiry well in advance of this editorial.
Attorney General Jim Hood is a man fighting for all Mississippians. Our entire staff is dedicated to serving all the people of our great state.
For your paper to imply differently based on one pending case (knowing we cannot comment on it) and one false premise is hugely insulting and, in my opinion as a former journalist, a great disservice to your readers.
They deserve better representation from your editorial staff.
