Concordia Schools maintained their two-star district label this year, according to a press realease issued by the school district.
Local school districts throughout the state received District Performance Scores this week. For 2006, four districts received a three-star rating and 33 districts received a two-star rating.
The District Performance Score is a compilation of individual student scores on the LEAP, iLeap, GEE, attendance and drop out rates.
School districts also received scores in the area of eighth grade persistence, attendance and teacher certification.
The district scored above the state average in the ability of keeping eighth grade students from dropping out.
The district also performed well in attendance. Concordia Schools scored 97.4,, compared to the state level at 87.6.
“I am extremely proud of our student attendance data and we will certainly work to keep this a positive factor in our schools,” Superintendent Kerry Laster said in the release. “If we are not at school, we cannot teach them — our schools work very hard to monitor student absences.”
Laster said that she is pleased with this year’s performance score.
“We had over 400 students moving in and out of our district after the hurricanes last year — this was an interruption to instruction, but we were still able to meet the needs of all students and remain focused on academics,” Laster said.
“Our entire school family — the school board members, administrators, teachers, students, parents and communities are working to continually improve our school district in all areas.”
