Melissa McFarland walked seven batters, but she still ended up striking nine in the final five innings to help the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs rally for a 13-6 win over the West Marion Lady Trojans Friday night in a Division 7-3A game.

McFarland was one of the keys to Franklin County’s win as she pitched four scoreless innings after giving up two runs in the top of the third inning.

However, it took two big innings at the plate for McFarland to end up the winning pitcher. The Lady Bulldogs scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to turn a 6-4 deficit into a 10-6 lead and then added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Franklin County starting pitcher Kristen Oglesby struck out three and walked just one as she went the first two innings. However, she also allowed West Marion to score four runs before being relieved by McFarland.

Oglesby more than made up for it at the plate by going 4-for-4 with a triple. Courtney Reed went 2-for-4 and Taylor Stewart was 2-for-4 with a double to lead the Lady Bulldogs’ 13-hit attack.

Franklin County (7-5, 1-1) scored one run in the bottom of the first, two in the bottom of the second and one in the bottom of the third, yet still trailed by two runs before rallying in the latter stages of the game.
