Officials with the Mississippi Department of Transportation warn area drivers of an upcoming change in the way traffic flows around the U.S. 61, Liberty Road construction site.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, openings that have been provided through the work zone in the center lane of Seargent S. Prentiss Drive between the traffic signal at the northeast access ramp and the middle driveway at Walmart will be closed.
Employees and customers of the businesses along this stretch of roadway are advised that only right turn access will be available for their destinations, access formerly provided for left turns will be blocked.
If possible, the crossings will be re-opened during hours of darkness. Round-the-clock access to the openings will be available again after Friday, if construction progresses as planned.
The center section of the signalized intersection on Seargent Prentiss Drive at the crossing of the northeast access ramp to the southbound detour of Seargent Prentiss will be closed during this time as well.
Travelers wishing to go east or west on Liberty Road will only be able to do so via Wood Avenue and Shields Lane. The intersection will be reopened after Friday, if construction progresses as planned.
Travelers are reminded that orange and white striped barrels are provided to delineate the line between the traveled roadway and the construction zone.
Travelers that pass between barrels other than where an opening has been provided are leaving the traveled roadway and risk injury.
