Green Wave rips Monterey on the road

Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley was hoping the Green Wave would play like they did when they started the season 7-1 and not how they played at last weekend’s Vidalia Baseball Classic.
Unfortunately for Monterey, perhaps Tuesday night was the worst time to have the Green Wave as its opponent. And Cathedral didn’t even have its No. 1 pitcher, Patrick McDonough, on the mound.
Instead, the Wolves had no answer for winning pitcher Preston Edwards on the mound or at the plate as Cathedral rolled to a 15-0 win in just five innings.
Edwards pitched just the first two innings, but he was impressive, as was Dylan White. Edwards also went 3-for-3 with a home run that set the tone for the game.
“Preston hit a two-run home run in the first inning and that got us going,” Cathedral head coach Craig Beesley said. “He did a good job for us on the mound in the first two innings. Dylan threw two scoreless innings for us in the third and fourth innings. He’s been a pleasant surprise for us.”
White has thrown 11 innings and is still yet to give up an earned run this season. That indeed is a surprise. Altogether, three Cathedral pitchers combined on a two-hitter.
What wasn’t a surprise was that Cathedral (9-3) ended up with 11 hits. Braxton Fondren went 3-for-4 with a double, Daniel Jenkins hit a home run and Cole Junkin was 2-for-3 with a double.
“I was glad to see us score 13 runs in the first three innings,” Beesley said. “We hit the ball real hard and hopefully this is a sign of things to come for us.”
Just 24 hours after committing 10 errors in a 17-7 loss to Franklin Parish, Monterey (2-8) continued to struggle defensively. Against Cathedral, the Wolves committed eight errors.
